The wooden mask netsuke is in the form of Okame. Okame is the goddess of mirth and is said to bring good luck. She is easily identifiable by her full cheeks and is often portrayed in a humorous manner. This large Netsuke is exceptionally carved with intricate details (note the teeth and contour of the face) and has developed a wonderful patina.
