Unusual Jizai

Unusual Jizai

A large and unusual jizai in the Daikoku shape. Rather than an angled top, the carver created a cloud-like carving to signify prosperity. The solid keyaki hearth hook would have been hung from its hooks to a ceiling beam. A near black patina was polished by the prior owner to reveal the wood’s grain. From the personal collection of a Kyoto-based family with 50 years of experience dealing in art and antiques.
