Heian Period Figure
Price on Request
Rare Heian period statue, possibly depicting Kannon Bosatsu. The sculpture with heavy wear and degradation but structurally sound. A standing Kannon like this was a devotional image made to be venerated on an altar in a temple hall. Gold leaf fragments remain on the front of the Boddhisatva, and garment details can be seen on the reverse. Surfaces are honeycombed by old worming with scattered losses to the drapery edges. Despite the damage, the work holds a quiet, archaic presence. Mounted on Japanese wheel. Professionally treated to prevent further decay.
