Pilgrims would carry little more than prayer beads, name slips, and sutra books in a bag slung over their shoulder. Note from the pictures the absence of stamps on the right shoulder; this pilgrim likely carried his bag on his right side.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e The coat dates to the first half of the twentieth century, and is hand woven from heavy white cotton.
