Small zeni-bako (money box) made of cryptomeria (sugi), finished with clear lacquer and fitted with iron hardware and a locking latch. Such boxes were used in households and merchant shops to safeguard coins and small valuables. This example retains its original surface with a rich patina and age-appropriate wear.
