Floral Kimono
Floral Kimono
A workaday cotton kimono patterned in indigo resist-dye (katazome) with a repeating floral scatter—petals and sprigs reserved in white against a deep blue ground. The dye penetrates the yarns evenly, leaving crisp paste edges that read on both faces. Over years of use, the garment was thoughtfully maintained with hand-stitched repairs.
c. Late 19th century, (Meiji Period) Japan
