Born in Ōita Prefecture, Japan, Yonezawa Jirō has worked with bamboo for over thirty-five years. Trained in Beppu and under master Masakazu Ono, he later spent eighteen years in the United States, where his work was shaped by the American fiber art movement. Since returning to his native village in 2008, Yonezawa has built a studio and exhibited internationally; his works are held in major U.S. collections.
