Sashimono were small banners historically worn by soldiers in feudal Japan for identification during battles. This example, made of silk, dates to the late 18th century during a time of peace in Japan. Five gold circles likely represent the family or clan emblem, known as a kamon. These symbols were often displayed by samurai or noble families to signify their lineage or affiliation. The flag itself in excellent condition and professionally framed.
