An 18th–19th century Korean painting portraying the Buddha seated in a composed, meditative posture. His hands form the Vitarka mudra, the traditional gesture associated with teaching and intellectual discourse, symbolizing the communication of Buddhist doctrine. The thumb and forefinger meet to create a circle, representing the unbroken continuity of wisdom. The Buddha is shown seated cross-legged atop a lotus throne emerging from stylized waves and floral motifs, elements rich with spiritual symbolism. Heavy age-related wear, areas of damage, and pronounced creasing.
